What is a Decent internet Speed For Online Gaming?
Whether you’re slugging it out in a multiplayer battle royal online gaming or working for your next highlight in your favorite sports video game, a slow connection might spoil your whole experience.
In general, a 25 Mbps internet connection is sufficient for gaming. Still, depending on the game you’re playing, and whether or not other devices are utilizing your internet connection, you’ll likely want considerably greater rates. Click here for fast and low latency internet providers in my area.
CenturyLink, fortunately, offers a variety of high-speed internet services. Before deciding which bundle is best for you, familiarize yourself with the fundamentals of gaming speed and equipment requirements.
Recommendations for internet speed across platforms
Although each game system has its own set of speed requirements, there are several universally acknowledged figures for many consoles:
Platform Upload and Download Speed
- 15–25 Mbps Xbox One Single Player
- Single-player 16 Mbps
- Play station 15 – 25 Mbps
- PC 15 – 25 Mbps
- Online Multiplayer 30+ Mbps
To eliminate latency when gaming and maintain speed high for each device in houses where numerous devices share an internet connection, we suggest at least 25 Mbps or higher.
Why should you use fiber optic internet for online gaming?
If faster internet connections improve gaming performance, it stands to reason that the fastest available link—fiber-optic internet—would be the best choice for online gaming. Multiple devices may connect to fiber-optic internet simultaneously with almost no latency.

What exactly is “ping”, and how does it affect your online gaming experience?
The ping rate of your connection, also known as latency, is a measurement of how long it takes data to move from one computer to another in milliseconds; the lower the number, the better. For an excellent online gaming experience, you’ll need a ping rate of roughly 20ms to 50ms. Ping rates of 50 to 150 milliseconds may cause latency in certain multiplayer games, although less than 150 milliseconds is acceptable for solo players.
Other considerations that may influence your online gaming experience
Connection type (wireless or wired):
Suppose you use an Ethernet cable to connect your console or PC directly to your internet modem. In that case, you may encounter somewhat slower rates or more disruptions than if you use a wireless connection. If a direct link isn’t feasible, make sure your console or router is in the best possible place.
Router:
You’ll require a router that can check the appropriate speed, and it should be placed away from walls, concrete, and appliances to avoid signal interference. CenturyLink has compiled a list of recommended routers to guarantee the most excellent possible performance with CenturyLink services.
On a single connection, you may connect many devices:
When you have further many devices connected to your internet simultaneously, your internet speeds will slow down, and your gameplay will be disrupted. Disconnect any other devices using your internet bandwidth to lessen latency.
Find the Right Network for You
Invest in an ISP that supports your ambition to be the quickest driver, most excellent shooter, or any other gaming aspirations you have.
CenturyLink provides several high-speed internet alternatives and fiber-optic networks that may reach rates of up to 940 Mbps in certain places.
Although fiber connections help alleviate most delay difficulties, they are not yet accessible everywhere. Go to Comlink website to see whether fiber connections are available in your location.
When you’re ready to begin gaming, CenturyLink will be there to assist you in getting the most out of each session.
