If we talk about the general idea of proctoring. In the easiest word, it is about the invigilation process through external forces. Any proctor or invigilator will be watching over students following all the criteria and requirements that are required for an exam. There is a list of things that are allowed to do in my proctored exam, whether it is an in-person exam or an online proctored exam. It does not change the fact whether you have a live proctor or not, certain things are allowed or not allowed to do my proctored exam.
If you have a live proctor in an online proctored exam, he/she can intervene at any time. A proctor might have any suspect upon anything, it will take necessary actions that are required. He/she will not allow any misconduct during the exam.
In case of not having a live proctor, all your actions and behaviors will be marked out through artificial intelligence. Afterward, it will be reviewed by an expert proctor or instructor. There is no skipping through in that part. Because you cannot make a fool out of artificial intelligence software or system. In addition to that, AI software is good as one gets in detecting faces or even in face recognition.
Following is the list of things that will be detected or flagged during the exam.
1. Speaking Loud
Talking or speaking out loud during the assessment is not permitted unless you have received an exception. Even if you are taking in-person assessments, no one is allowed to whisper, speak or talk aloud. Same in the case of online proctoring you will be detected or might be reported to a proctor for violating rules.
2. Testing out the room location
You must take the test alone in a room, preferably at home. It is not permissible to use them outdoors or in public locations. You must sit in a regular chair with your computer on a computer desk. Those things that are not approved for use during the exam must be removed from the testing area. You’re ready to take the exam once you’ve confirmed that your devices and examination room will match the standards on test day.
3. An individual is not allowed to hide his/her face out
Ensure that you can be seen by the supervisor at all times during the test. Avoid acting on anything that could be perceived as suspicious, such as looking away from a computer screen. Being hidden from view by the camera. Your entire face, from chin to brow, must be visible to the camera at all times.
4. No one is allowed in an exam room or area except you
First and foremost, additional noises such as other individuals chatting to you, are not permitted while you are taking your exam. No one should enter or talk to you while you are taking an exam.
5. Gazing out of the screen
By this time we all know that we are being monitored either through a physical or I might say in-person proctor or through AI software for any sort of detection and suspicions. Your eyes should be on the screen all the time to avoid any kind of misunderstanding. If you gaze out it will be considered or perhaps can be conceived as cheating.
6. Materials are not allowed
Artificial intelligence software is always looking for a potential breach. And if you give one by having any kind of material in front of you, the software will report a proctor or authorities. So, a person should not have any material that is prohibited by your instructor to do my proctored exam.
7. Screenshots of the exam
You are not allowed to take any pictures or screenshots while you are taking an exam. In the case of a live proctor, an instructor will turn off the access to take any screenshot of a paper.
8. Plagiarism
A system will detect every type of copy-paste. Moreover, if it is not detected by software it will be cross-checked through an invigilator or proctor and count as cheating. Copying and pasting any material or content will be considered plagiarism.
9. Using a virtual machine
A virtual machine is to connect screen-sharing applications. It will give access to someone else to have remote access to use your keyboard or mouse while you are taking a test. It is also not allowed and will be exposed during the exam checking process.
10. Two monitors
A student is not allowed to use a secondary monitor attached to the primary screen.
The Final Verdict
Before starting to do my proctored exam an email of certain things of rules and regulations will be given to students. In case of additional changes, a person would be notified prior. So, you don’t have to worry about lacking or not knowing all terms and conditions. However, the above-mentioned list is a basic guideline of things that are allowed or not allowed during a proctored exam.
