23 Types Of Clothes

This list of types of clothes isn’t complete. It only covers a short period that is relevant to our current 2020s. There is also an historical context added to.

I’d be able to create an even more detailed guide that covers the different kinds of clothes from various periods and eras – Byzantine is just one of the ones that instantly comes to mind! However, since that is more of a historical guide instead of contemporary I’d like to do it later on.

Types of clothes

Legwarmers

I remember being required by my parents to use leg warmers while a girl in the 1980s within the UK!

They were once round, made by hand and worn over the legs, in between ankles and knees.

They can be hidden beneath our school pants or worn in mini skirts for a an impression with fashion.

Leotard

A piece of clothing I did not like wearing when I was younger The leotard covers the entire body, from the bottom up to the shoulders.

This style was initially worn by Jules Leotard, a French trapezist in the 19th century , and since then, it has been superbly popular among disco fans and dancers.

It’s made of different types of fabrics that can be used for casual wear as well as active wear requirements.

Panties

Panties are underwear that women wear on their lower body parts. Also known as knickers in certain countries, they are constructed from knitted cotton fabric or lace, mesh, and many more.

They are often cut by using a picot or folder elastic trim for a stylish edge and also to trim the edges that the cloth.

Pants / Trousers

The lower half of the body is covered to keep legs warm and protected Pants (or trousers , as they’re called!) are an evolution of the first 19th century Knickerbockers that were worn by women since the 1920s.

In the past, the pants and trousers were not fashionable. It was not until the 1970s that it was fashionable that women wore pants for formal and casual occasions. Read something like janome magnolia 7318 reviews and choose this model if you wanna sew without any issues for years to come.

Petticoat

The petticoat can be described as a form of underwear that is worn over dresses and skirts to provide an additional layer of warmth.

Similar to the jumpsuit, a playsuit is shorter in the leg. Made of a variety of fabrics and cut various designs, a playsuit can be an amazing piece of modern clothes if you are able to manage taking it all off to use the bathroom!

Playsuits are sometimes referred to as Rompers, when they are made especially for women!

Poncho

The origins of ponchos are South America, and look similar to large blankets that have a simple opening to put our heads. My husband owns several he wears to stay warm during the wintertime.

They could be solid color or made with different patterns when they are woven.

Pyjamas

Pyjamas are commonly worn by men, women and kids as nightwear but they are now being re-introduced for evening wear by the latest fashion-forward designers.
