We all know that moving is exciting but is hectic and exhausting at the same time too. During all the chaos you would not want to miss out on some things that you will regret not keeping in mind before. But what is much better than having a handy checklist? Here are some common tasks that everyone needs to do during relocation.
Planning your move
You must plan your each and every move much before the time of move to ensure that there are not any things left. Check all your belongings to be relocated. Go through everything in each room and make a list separately for everything.
Budget your move
Look for your budget that how much you want to spend and how much efforts are you willing to put into the move. If there are somethings that you can do instead of hiring somebody then plan those weeks before for smooth relocation.
Get rid of unwanted items
Once you have gone through everything at your home then you will be sure of what you want and what you don’t. Get rid of all the unnecessary items weeks before you are moving. You can either donate them to the needy people or sell them online or in a sale.
Start collecting packaging material
Good quality moving supplies is a must and you must get them as soon as possible. Go through different shops that may have good carton boxes and might give them to you. Ask them if they can give you for free as there are many shopkeepers who do not want those boxes and want to get rid of them. Get other packaging material also such as tapes, packaging paper, newspaper, bubble wraps, markers, etc.
Change your address
Changing your address in mails, important documents such as driving license, aadhar, utility services etc. is important. You would not want to get into any situation to miss your important mails or deadline to pay the bill.
Hire suitable moving company
Get in touch with a number of professional moving companies and see which one is best for you. Investigate your options properly and have a look at the work of those companies. Make a questionnaire to ask them about their services. Check their reviews and ask for references to cross check how they work. Get all the paper work done beforehand to reduce any stress for later. Go through the payment terms clearly and clear all your doubts regarding anything. It is advised to book the moving company at least a week before for any of the required services.
Arrange for storage if required
There might be some situations in which you might require to put some of your stuff somewhere. Go through all the renovation check and other things at your new home if there is any delay. Look for storage spaces to secure your belongings. You can go for warehousing services in this case.
Start using food items
You must start finishing all the food material that might get rotten during the move. You must start finishing refrigerated and other pantry items few days before you are moving.
Strategize your packing
You have the moving supplies but all you lack is that you don’t have a strategy to pack your things. Start packing things that you use less like some books, other season clothes, some machinery etc. Doing this will save a lot of your time. Make separate boxes of these items and set them aside. Then start disintegrating your furniture and packing your décor and fragile items few days before your move. Pack other kitchen, bathroom and bedroom items into different color coded or labelled boxes. Pack essentials in a separate bag including toiletries, a pair of clothes, medicines, etc.
Decide what appliance to take
There must be some old appliances that are not working properly and will be good to leave them behind and buy a new one. Or, there will be some heavy appliances that might not fit into your new house. If you want to get rid of any of them then schedule an appointment with the appliance company and ask for exchange and get a new one at your new address.

Get your plants all set
Plants are very sensitive and might get ill because of change in environment. Know about their needs and either find a new home for them or come through a solution to transport them all the way to your new place.
Get a leave
You won’t be able to move without getting a leave. If you are moving on a weekday then it will become very hectic for you to relocate and work.
Clean both homes
Cleaning your old home will tell you if there is anything left to pack. While cleaning your new home is necessary to avoid any pest infestation. Also, a little effort will save you from cleaning charges by your landlord.

Take essentials with you
