#1 Mental Health Awareness
In 2020, mental health was a topic of discussion among consumers and brands and organizations. The COVID-19 pandemic played no small role in this: A May 2020 Stanford University study found that 54% of Americans were experiencing mental health problems during stay-at-home orders.
As a result, brands responded with more empathy and understanding toward their customers’ struggles and even introduced new products to help them cope with stress and anxiety. One example is Pact’s “Caring Collection” of clothing made from organic cotton with taglines like “I’m With You.” It also partnered with nonprofit Mental Health America to donate 10% of proceeds from sales of the collection to support its mission.
In 2022, mental health awareness will continue to grow as people grow more comfortable talking about mental health issues. We expect it will become an expected part of brand messaging — rather than just a trend.
#2 Relocalization
Spending at home was up across nearly every category in 2020 and 2021. But as restrictions lifted and people returned to work, they didn’t return to their old spending habits. Once accustomed to spending more time and money at home. Many people found they preferred it and decided not to go back to a busy lifestyle of commuting, eating out, and shopping in stores for nonessential purchases.
#3 A Desire to Commune With Nature
As urban areas intensify, more people move further from cities to live in smaller towns and rural communities. The pandemic has increased the appeal of suburban living, driving up property values and causing bidding wars for houses outside of the city. People want to live closer to nature and have outdoor space for recreation.
Outdoor Recreation
Demand for outdoor recreation is also spiking. Camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, and other activities draw record-breaking numbers of participants from across generations. Demand for nature is not limited to recreation and escape; it’s also affecting architecture and building design. Indoor plants have become ubiquitous in office spaces and homes as people seek to bring nature indoors. Biophilic design — which uses natural elements such as sunlight, greenery, and water — is becoming more popular, influencing everything from building facades to furniture design.

One of the most popular trends lately has been big bags. Some of the designs on the market resemble small pieces of luggage rather than a handbag. Large handbags are not only popular because of the size, but also for the ability to carry everything you need in one bag. With the larger designs you now have room to carry your laptop and other necessities that you need throughout the day. This affords you the luxury of just using one bag to carry everything, instead a briefcase and a purse you can now just use the larger style of bag for all of your needs.
Every step although small is a step in the right direction
Color has also become a big trend in handbags. Women today are not limited to only brown or black but can choose from a variety of colors that designers are now using. The option of a colored bag allows for women to match their bags to their outfits. Or is you simply love color you can now choose a bag that fits your personality better. Although black may still be a classic choice among handbag shoppers more and more women are choosing to purchase colored bags in order to add more personality and flair to their wardrobes.
Environmental Concerns
Due to environmental concerns and the energy crisis of recent years, it seems that “going green” is quite the buzz these days; from existing businesses becoming “green certified”. Also many others mushrooming as green businesses. The premise of going green seems to be getting quite the attention. In recent blogs that I have read there seems to be a consensus in the belief that I have had a while back ago. Is this really a trend or a lifestyle change?
Environment Betterment
How can the consumption of products and the betterment of the environment be equated ? Well, unfortunately and sadly ,we live in a highly acquisitive society and in a culture purely motivated by consumption. That maybe it is true that buying green products per se will not lead as a whole to saving of the planet. It can and has brought an awareness to the environmental issue. Although I don’t dispute that yes, it is purely based on marketing. We have seen a spurt in demand for organic products.
Final Thoughts
This movement if you will is not generally a negative thing; it surely is a step in the right direction and ideally and yes I mean ideally. I believe that in order for real change to take place and certainly make a difference. There has to be a dramatic shift in people’s perception, habits and most importantly a renewed lifestyle change. Only time will tell whether and if these ideas will penetrate the American psyche so true change can possibly occur.
